Michael Koch - Klavierstücke

Clear the stage for music like from a fairy tale. We move somewhere between the wonderful world of Amelie and Beauty and the Beast. On the direct way to the heart.

Michael Koch can almost be called a veteran of the music industry. It all started at the age of eight, when he took his first piano lessons. Five years later, he joined his first band, laying the foundation for 30 years of composing, arranging and black-and-white key caressing. The pianist, composer, songwriter and producer - take your pick - has experienced various musical genres: jazz, pop, rock, hip hop, classical music, film music. He has also worked as a sound engineer for radio and television. Now he has returned to his beginnings, the solo piano, and (finally) puts himself in the spotlight with his sound pearls.

Influenced by artists like Chick Corea, Chilly Gonzalez, Nils Frahm and Ólafur Arnalds, he lets us share in his reflection and experiences of life. The sound pearls have names like Zwei Schritte Vor Einer Zurück, A Man's Lullaby and Tief Berührt. It's very honest and open, almost a soul striptease. This is not by chance, because he has been searching for a deeper meaning in life for several years. Also inspired by his collaboration with Christian Bischoff, for whom he has produced and composed music albums, he recorded his own in December 2020 at Bauer Studios in Ludwigsburg. Supported by Adrian von Ripka and accompanied by Friedemann Jörn's violin sounds (Vergeben and Herbstsonne), the enchanting album 'Klavierstücke' with ten sound pearls was created.

If you want to dedicate yourself to the piano pieces of Michael Koch, you should bring one thing above all: Time. Not to digest the music, but to give it the space it deserves and that it will demand in you. Koch's way of speaking through music includes catchy melodies, powerful chord passages with delicate finger acrobatics. Like a magician, he conjures up audible plays of light (The Light From The Other Side - favorite pearl) - like the glitter on water or in treetops. Or like in the more leisurely Autumn Sunshine, which catapults you into that very season. Michael Koch can create a mood. Like in Stille, for example, which slowly builds up - in interplay with silence - to a sea of sound. In Raindrops it gets a little darker and more dramatic, but it remains melodic and hopeful. A strong work is also A Man's Lullaby, which tells a story in nine minutes in the manner of film music. And it doesn't get a bit boring.

Everything seems like a forest walk through one of Disney's kingdoms with Michael Koch in the role of the good fairy.

Music to pause, take a deep breath and dream.
